As said by the Cambridge Dictionary, Ethics is ‘the study of what is morally right or wrong, or a set of beliefs about what is morally right or wrong’. Art is ‘the making of objects, images, music, etc. that are beautiful or that express feelings’. Boundaries have been created between ethics and art, as people have different opinions of the limit in which artists are aloud to take.
Art is a large aspect of culture and is used in all countries to express their traditions, culture and values. Art is used as a way, where a person can express their feelings on a certain topic though the use of a variety of different techniques such as drawing, painting, sculptures and performing art. Art techniques can vary from being seen as too little, such as a simple line drawing, or too much, such as a public performing performance. Famous artworks in which have contributed to the culture of a country is the Mono Lisa painted by Leonardo da Vinci. This artwork has contributed to the French culture immensely and is now known worldwide. However, people believe there are limit to which art to stand by.
There are two perspectives on the limit of art, one being there shouldn’t be a limit, and the other is that there should be a discrete limit set. The people who believe there should not be a limit are mostly artist who are passionate in pursuing art and those who love to view art for their personal likes. However, most people who disagree believe that there should be a limit to how far art can go. An example of this is an artwork where it is in public, and it may affect people who are close or near where the artwork is, such as performance art using knifes.
As different countries have different cultures, they have different perspectives of art and the limits it has. In China, you can easily find a shop in which you can buy fireworks. However, in Australia you will not be able to find one shop that would sell to you any fireworks at all because of safety. Safety is seen as one of the most important aspects in Australia, so the ethics of art are very discrete compared to china. In Australia, you will need to have permission from many people to perform on the street, as simple as a dance. However, in china I have seen that it isn’t as important as I have seen people dance, sell, buy, and drive in places and they haven’t got in trouble with the police. So artists don’t have the wall that isn’t holding them back from what they can achieve in the public.
Overall, I personal believe that there should be a limit on art as I think it can cause danger to others if artist do not know a limit in which they have to work by. However, the world is a large place and people all around the world have different perspectives on art and ethics.
